Find the money leaking from your forgotten projects
A 10-minute checklist. You shipped it, moved on, and it's still running. Here's where forgotten projects hide costs, platform by platform. Everything here is free and manual.
1. Make the list 2 min
List every repo you've pushed to in the last 2 years. Mark anything you haven't touched in 90+ days as a suspect.
2. Vercel 2 min
- Open your team's billing and usage page. Vercel's Spend Management has a default on-demand budget, notifications, and an optional hard limit that pauses projects.
- Set a budget if you haven't already.
- Compare the project list against your suspects, and delete or pause what's dead. Deployment retention policies can clean up old deployments automatically.
3. Railway 2 min
- Check each project's estimated usage for the current cycle. Any usage you don't recognize is a cobweb.
- Remove services you don't need. Railway bills for usage while things are running.
4. Netlify 1 min
- Compare the bandwidth your team has used against what's included, and remove sites you don't recognize.
5. Domains 1 min
- In your registrar (Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy, Porkbun), sort by expiry date. Turn off auto-renew for dead ideas before they renew.
6. AI APIs 2 min
- OpenAI: check usage and costs grouped by project or API key, and revoke keys tied to dead projects.
- Anthropic: check the Usage and Cost pages in the Console, and deactivate keys you no longer use.
- Search your old repos for committed API keys and rotate any you find.
7. Decide: keep, kill, or sell
If a project is dead but someone else might finish it, marketplaces like Failedups and DeadSaaS list half-built projects.
Doing this every month is the boring part.
That's why we're building CobwebCheck: one-click read-only connections, a card for every project, and a monthly “you're leaking $X” email. It never deletes anything.
